Just a quick update but the good folk over at kingsbury press sent me out one of their shiny 2009 diaries designed by Thompson Brand Partners / RGB of tDR and new studio Golden fame and it is a lovely bit of print.

I’m long overdue an update to my main site, which I am going to tackle really soon as the website and first wave of flyers have launched for the festival I have just branded… but I’ll share that at another time once I’ve got the images sorted out.

December update

crashlogoblog1

Aren’t I getting into updating this thing monthly malarky ehy?….Anyways!

December thus far has been manic to say the least.  Not just because I had lots of Christmas shopping to do but also managed to fit some work in there n’all.  OPX released a wee snapshot of a new Identity they have been working on for construction charity CRASH which I pitched a few ideas for whilst on placement there.  The final ident they chose (i think) is excellent, and is a mixture of one of my ideas that I came up with.  Once all of it is officially launched I’ll put up my idea online for anyone to have a gander at, but until then you can check out the final logotype here / above.

In other news, I’ve been working some pretty late nights the last week or so; one for a monster of a brand audit I was involved with at work, but on a more fun note I have been burning the candle at both ends on some new projects that came in just after my last post which are thoroughly underway.  One is for a new youth music festival that I am created the branding, flyers, posters, t-shirts, badges, CD’s and website for and the other is a set of promotional flyers for a new club night based in Middlesborough.  Both launch next year (January and May respectively) but I can’t show much from these at the moment as they are both in development…. but it’s all looking good!

So that’s probably it for this year,  I may do a little reminising post over Christmas if I get some downtime (which at the moment looks a little unlikely at work) so if not, have a good’en!

As mentioned in the previous post, I’ve got my arse in gear and uploaded a new branding project for lab – a new clothing line from the guys at LAB Records, so go check it out here for more details.

lectures2

Another month, another post…Thought I best post something at least!  Myself and some of the people from work went down to the Michael Peters talk not so long ago which was pretty good.  He seemed like a really straight up guy, with a wealth of experience and lots of stories to tell.  More of an interview / chat than a full on lecture of sorts but was very good none the less.

We also had a belated Summer party (more like Autumn) at work which was fun…A bond themed evening of cocktails culminating in a speed boat trip down The Thames which was windy, wet and fun! Not the most flattering picture of myself but nevermind!

I’ve finished up the stuff i’ve been doing recently for LAB Apparel which I am in the process of creating the page for my website as I type this so It shouldn’t be too long till thats up… I’m just being lazy.  I’m also in the process of putting together a little booklet of images I took whilst on a trip to Amsterdam over the summer, a few can be seen here

Other than that things are a little on the quiet side whilst I’m waiting for some flyer / poster work to come through and to start some identity design for a very talented 3D animator, more about that at a later date.  So if anyone is up for any collaborative work for fun or what-not then get in contact.

Long time no post…

Well things have been pretty busy in my first month at turquoise and I feel like I’m learning lots about the world of branding.  A few of us from the office went down to the Kyle Cooper talk just around the corner as part of the new series of D&AD lectures.  It was a really interesting talk, and he seemed like a down to earth guy and it was interesting to hear about his inspiration and working methods, I felt it could have gone on for longer but nevermind.  I also tried to go down to the Bibliotheque lecture last night at LCC,  however I’m sure it wasn’t intended for people who work as it started at 6:30 sharpish and I arrived too late and it had already started…. bah.

I also received my new business cards from turquoise the other day which felt really good!… lame I know.

Also the lovely chaps over at Truth design in Manchester sent me one of their new promotional posters to celebrate their 2nd birthday, Illustrated by the wonderful Si Scott, so many thanks to Darren and co for sending that to me, i just need to find a space on my wall for it now!

Pop, Bubble, Rock! launched a few weeks ago with a great success, and all my flyers, banners, t-shirts and massive A1 posters seemed to do the trick as the night was a sell-out.  Shame I wasn’t there to join in the shenanigans but nevermind.  PBR! also kicked off in Nottingham this week which I again did all the promotional material for with, from what I heard, was had a great evening by all that attended.

I’ve got a couple of bits and bobs I am working on at the moment aside from work, including the new logo for LAB apparel which I am putting the finishing touches to at the moment and some minor tweaks and spring cleans in progress to my portfolio website including sorting out the navigation on the left hand side which I am to have static so it doesn’t scroll off the page… I just need to figure out how to do it in dreamweaver first!

So that’s it for now, prolly be another month till the next one so….

I do apologise for not posting on here for a little bit, lots of things have happened over the last few weeks and I’ve slightly neglected posting.

After my placement at OPX I started the next placement at SampsonMay which went really well, incredibly nice bunch of chaps.  However I only got to stay there a week as this week I started my new junior position at Turquoise branding in Holborn. I’m mega chuffed to have landed my first permanent role with such a great firm and my first week has gone great.  So I’m not sure where this leaves me with my blog, I’m sure I will continue to update it, but maybe abit more sporadically… infact probably no more than usual but with more randomness and goings on.

So for now it’s back to work.

A few galleries

I’ve been out of the studio the last few days around London doing some research and picture gathering as part of a studio project for OPX that should surface in the not so distant future.  I managed to have a gander around the Camden Arts Centre where there are some nice 3D type environments by Chantal Akerman and an unusual bringing the outdoors, indoors piece by Anya Gallaccio.  Apart from being a lovely building, I really liked the way they document each exhibition thanks to James Goggin and the use of an updatable file note system which are really neatly designed.

I also took a visit to a fairly new gallery at Proud in Camden and got to have a nosey around their new Rock n’ Roll photography exhibition.  Even though they were in the middle of some alterations, the venue looks great and I can imagine it working really well on preview nights and when the place is busy.

So I’m in my last week here at OPX and its been a brilliant month, time has flown by and I’ve been lucky enough to be involved in some really great projects right from the beginning and helped win a pitch in the process.  So many thanks to all at OPX who have made it a memorable time, including David for all the advice and encouragement.  I start my next placement on Monday which again should be a good’en.

World of YCN

Last week I was asked by Alex over at YCN to take part in their “World of YCN” piece for the next YCN book where I have to decorate a tree how I see fit, which speedily came through the post today.

Earlier on tonight there was a programme on BBC3 which followed the rise of Beach Break Live – a festival based in Polzeath, which I was involved in during my last job in Manchester, so it was nice to see some of the festival graphics I did a while back on the TV screen.  I’m also doing a little bit of freelance for Snowbombing festival at the moment too and getting everything ready for the re-launch of Pop, Bubble, Rock! come September which is proving to be a pretty busy time whilst still on placement at OPX.  I can’t wait to this weekend and a trip to Brighton for good measure!
